Line Editing of Defiant Systems – August release

Line editing for Defiant Systems is well underway – I’m exactly 25% through the final edit of the text.

The book is on schedule for August release.

Here’s the music I’m listening to, another outstanding (but intense) album from Carpenter Brut, please support the artist on Bandcamp

When all the line editing is done, early review copies of Defiant Systems will be offered to everyone who’s interested in being part of the early review group. I’ll send out emails confirming this in about two weeks!

To join the early review group for Defiant Systems (book 2), get in contact here and I’ll add you to the list.

Also, for anyone interested in a review copy of Defiant Space (book 1) please visit here.

For now, I’m busy scrutinizing each and every sentence in the whole book. It’s looking good though – very happy with this story overall, and I’m excited to see what response it gets.

There’ll be more updates in the coming weeks as the book gets an official launch date and appears on Amazon.

The schedule on Rimmblog will increase as we get nearer to launch day – look for the grand book cover reveal in the coming week!

Today, I have the blurb for Defiant Systems to show. Here is the second Infinite Void novel:

One starship against endless empires.

The starship Fidelity arrives on the far side of the galaxy, without power or allies. A fiery interstellar conflict threatens to pull them in. Fidelity must find a way through the complex web of loyalties needed to survive on the frontlines of a warzone.

Cal is haunted by dreams of a ruthless ancient being that hunts them. His comrades, Rosco and Leda, must master the advanced technology around them, and begin a perilous journey down the path of cybernetic augmentation.

Only through their ingenuity and wit can the travellers from Vale Reach hope to defy the odds and achieve their impossible mission. War machines and horrors of titanic scale will rise against them in an epic confrontation as they draw nearer to the prize of securing protection for their homeworld.

Can the crew of Fidelity face the full onslaught of a hostile galaxy? Or will they become just another casualty in an endless struggle between empires?

This is the second novel in the Infinite Void Series.

  1. Hello Richard,

I hope you and your family are well and healthy.
I’m reaching out to you because every time I read your email about “Defiant System” #2 being the sequel to “Defiant Space” #1 my mind freezes! Till I decided to ask you once and for all. Lol. I’m utterly lost.

Ok, if “Defiant System” is book-2 to “Defiant Space” #1, where does “Inhuman Pressure #2 fit in? And we are presumedly talking about “Infinite Void” series, yes?

Am I missing something? Note that I’m on strong meds whose side effects is lapses of memory loss, fuzzy, drowsy( 2 surgeries on my spinal cord with 2 vertical plates). Are you re-editing the series, Richard? If so, I’m very sorry about my confusion. Please forgive me for bothering you and taking up your valuable time.

Also, I’d love to join your ARC team, it would be an honour. I love the blurb, it’s thrilling and thought provoking! But I’m going to be sincere and tell you I have quite a few pending ARCs, I wouldn’t like to fail you and not deliver my review on time of the book launches.

Thank you for your patience and time. Have a lovely and inspirational week. Take care.

    Love and Light.

    Meenaz. 🧡🌟🙏

    1. Hi Meenaz!

I’m happy to hear you’re paying such attention to the series. Thank you.

Your question actually inspired me to write a whole blog post – here it is: https://rimmblog.wordpress.com/2022/07/16/infinite-void-the-series-so-far/

The short version is, I have both a novel series, and some anthologies too! Inhuman Pressure, and its sequel Recurrent Immortality are short story anthologies. I moved on from writing these anthologies to writing a longer novel series – this is Defiant Space, and it’s upcoming sequel, Defiant Systems.

So they are indeed four different books – you’ll find that the Defiant Space and Defiant Systems novels form a single long ongoing series that’s not yet complete. ‘Infinite Void’ refers to the shared sci fi universe all of my books take place in.

One day I’ll write some more short story anthologies, but probably not for a few more years – my attention is on the big novel series for now!

In terms of the ARC group, I’d love to have you onboard. I know people are generally very busy and have varying amounts of reading time, so I’m not adding any kind of time limit for submitting the reviews – simply adding a review any time you are able to is fine with me. Out of interest, have you read Defiant Space yet? (the first novel in the series)

Hope you are well and recovering from your surgery. Great to hear from you!

      Have an excellent week,
      Richard

      1. Hola, Richard,

I’m so happy you responded! I just read your newsletter with the fabulous explanation about the series. Thank you so much for clarifying. I now understand it all. Lol.

I saw the series and anthologies are already at Amazon, and in KU, no less! I read a lot through KU, as I’m not working since my back issues began in 2015. Can I begin to read the books now? I could start reading Defiant Space #1 now, to answer your question.

I’m reading very slow and not much but daily, due to pains and meds. I’m still flabbergasted by the amount of books I read in 2019! Goodreads challenge says I read 328 books. But after the surgeries in 2020 and 2021, the numbers declined. I’m not doing very bad this year though.😁 We’ll see, because the last MRI of April showed more protrusions on the thoracic vertebrae. Adds more pains together with the middle and lower back and sacro. Reading helps a lot, even if it’s not much.

I’d better get back to reading and a nap, feeling sleepy.

Thank you again for being so helpful.

        Have a lovely weekend!

        Warm wishes,

        Meenaz.
